One of its most striking features was the floating boardroom\nbecause the building was otherwise clean-lined. An additional layer of frit patterning in\nthis PV glass\nassembly creates a dappled light effect evoking the sense of movement and time\nas the sun moves across the building, transforming the existing brutalist\nbuilding into an environment that is \u201cengaging, inviting, and\nrestorative,\u0022 said Sharkey "]]],[10,1],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Upgrades to the existing building envelope\nwill additionally heat gain and glare while improving thermal and visual comfort,\nwith the added benefit of generating additional on-site power. These amorphous silicon\nPV panels create a continuous ribbon across the entire width of the fa\u00e7ade,\nadjusting in tilt to optimize their orientation as they move from South to\nWest; a future-forward complement to the existing ribbon windows. The PV glass\nand ceramic frit pattern contributes to a more bird safe glazing approach."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Exterior glazing along the two street-facing\nfacades is upgraded with higher\nperformance glazing with frit patterning. \u201cThe graphic in the patterning tracks the path of the sun as it moves across the building, creating a gesture that is both high performing, expressive, and\nintegrated,\u201d said Sharkey. \u0022It also contributes to a more bird safe glazing approach.\u0022"]]],[10,2],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Since it was dedicated decades ago, materials used for the AIA office building have evolved. Though the space will hold greater symbolism for AIA and its members, \nas the 1973 dedication message explains, the intention behind the current\nrenewal project remains the same as it did 50 years ago: \u201cWe\npursue this mission as a professional body, honing and broadening our capabilities,\ncounseling the nation\u2019s leaders and the public alike on the nature of environmental\nquality and the means of its achievement.
