The 40th annual competition is an extra-curricular activity that introduces you to architecture through participation in a design project. You will be provided with the opportunity to interact with design professionals who will serve as mentors and assist you in this learning experience. All students are encouraged to seek the help of an advisor or teacher. We are offering some great prizes, including college scholarships for the top three participants. The Honor and Merit Award college scholarships can be used at any college of the winner\u2019s choice. The competition is open to all students within AIA Dayton\u2019s nine-county geographic region (Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby Counties) and\/or zip codes beginning with 453, 454, 455, and 458. The event is limited to the first 80 students who return their registration form with the $25 per student registration fee. Teachers and advisors are encouraged to share in the fun and can register for free. Teams are not permitted. Instructors, architects, college architecture students, friends, family, and other competition entrants may advise you, but the work is to be your own. Funk, a rhythm-driven musical genre popular in the 1970s and early 1980s that linked soul to laterAfrican-American musical styles. Like many words emanating from the African-American oral tradition,funk defies literal definition, for its usage varies with circumstance.. Musically, funk refers to a style of aggressive urban dance music driven by hard syncopated bass lines and drumbeats and accented by any number of instruments involved in rhythmic counterplay, all working toward a \u201cgroove.\u201d This mission for a new home parallels the true project that just has been announced to return to Dayton. The charette will feature speakers and panelists from the area focusing on topics of Dayton history, and include an Introduction to the Funk Center Mission by their director, David Webb. We will work to discover as well as introduction to the professi. Working with AIA Dayton architects and designers, participants will enjoy creative and challenging design exercises. We will also have one Saturday and one Thursday session to provide design feedback to the students; these will be round robin style via Zoom. Each of these sessions will include a short educational component or virtual architectural office tour before the individual critiques.
