This distance hindered the FLPA\u2019s\ninteractions with\nthe tenants at the port, so the FLPA needed\nan office building close to the Port of Florence that would serve the tenants\nbetter. An\nelevated site that is highly visible from the port was chosen for the new\noffice building, and the building was designed to\nhave ample views of the port from the director\u2019s office and the conference room."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"The\nexterior of the building is clad in a combination of stone veneer and vertical\nribbed corrugated metal paneling. Metal paneling expresses the industrial\nnature of the port. A single gabled roof with dark bronze standing seam metal\nroofing contrasts with the wall materials. The south fa\u00e7ade is divided by a\nseries of stone pilasters and large windows that emphasize the views of the\nPort of Florence and connect the building to the tenants that the FLPA serves."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"The two entrances are important\npoints of contact between the FLPA and port tenants. The roof at the front\nentrance of the building is cantilevered to provide shelter and invite people\ninto the building. The lobby at that entrance blends the interior and exterior\nconditions by bringing the exterior stone veneer inside. The barrier between\nexterior and interior is further softened by two walls of windows. A deep\noverhang at the back entrance protects the FLPA staff from inclement weather."]]]]}
