Section 423.4 of the OBC specifically details the\n inclusion of shelters in both public and private school buildings. With\n the moratorium ending, new school buildings housing an aggregate occupant\n load of 50 or more persons must be constructed with storm shelters meeting\n the ICC 500 storm shelter requirements. This will apply to almost all\n school buildings in Ohio because, apart from a small portion of the state\n adjacent to West Virginia, the remainder of the state is designated by ICC\n 500 as a 250 MPH tornado Zone IV area. \n \n "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"The moratorium on storm shelter requirements for schools\n was put in place after the adoption of the 2017 Ohio Building Code and has\n been extended by the Ohio General Assembly numerous times over the last five\n years. In 2018, HB 21 enacted the first moratorium. This action\n was extended by HB 166 adopted by the Ohio General Assembly on July 17, 2019.
