"],[0,[],0,"The Center, housed in a historic one room “cottage” from 1829, now features a slave cabin "],[0,[],0,"interior, period exhibits and a “garden patch” highlighting foodstuffs common in gardens "],[0,[],0,"cultivated by Eastern Shore enslaved people. "],[0,[],0," Before the building was relocated, Oxford Tree-Ring Laboratory performed a "],[0,[],0,"Dendrochronological analysis confirming that the original structure was built from trees felled in "],[0,[],0,"the spring of 1828 through the winter of 1829 / 30. A Preservation Plan included "],[0,[],0,"recommendations containing philosophies, objectives, treatments, and cost estimates following "],[0,[],0,"the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Ultimately, "],[0,[],0,"almost all historic materials and finishes were repaired-in-kind rather than replaced. Building "],[0,[],0,"modifications and upgrades on this nationally significant landmark required a complicated "],[0,[],0,"balance between preserving the historic integrity of the building while allowing for the "],[0,[],0,"advancement of the mission of the County’s Parks & Recreation Department, the Historical "],[0,[],0,"Society, and various nonprofit organizations. The 980 SF project ultimately lasted over five "],[0,[],0,"years and led to a phased restoration of the iconic building, which had sat derelict for "],[0,[],0,"decades. "]]]]}
