The project is located on the 2004 block of Windthorst Road in Wichita
Falls, Texas. Once completed, this facility will provide storage and
maintenance facilities for the City’s FallsRide bus system as well as Rolling
Plains Management Corporation’s (RPMC) SHARP Lines Rural Transportation."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"The
project scope includes administrative offices for the City of Wichita Falls
Transportation staff and RPMC staff, maintenance facilities, parking, both
covered and uncovered, for both organization’s fleet, and bus washing area and
fueling station. The site is designed to handle the capacity of as many as
forty-three transit vehicles of various sizes. Access control and surveillance systems
are utilized for both the site and all buildings."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"The
8,468 SF administrative building includes multiple offices for RPMC SHARP
Lines, FallsRide, Wichita Falls Metropolitan Planning Organization and the DAV
Chapter 41 staff, along with a shared conference/training room, break room, and
secure vault. The design also includes a wellness room with fitness equipment
and shower facilities. A dispatch office is located right off the lobby area.
The building is constructed with conventional steel framing with low
maintenance finishes like pre-finished horizontal metal wall panels, burnished
CMU veneer and standing seam roof system. Even thought the City of Wichita
Falls is under the 2006 International Energy Code, SLA strives to provide the
best facilities for our clients. Additional continuous insulation was added to
the walls to help provide a more efficient facility for the City. Deep covered
porches were added to the east and west sides of the building to protect
glazing from direct sunlight. "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"

Adjacent to the administrative building, and connected with a
covered walk, is the maintenance repair building. The 11,426 SF building
consists of seven drive-thru bays, parts and tire storage areas, mechanic
offices, and mechanics work area. The structure consists of a pre-engineered
metal building frame with metal roof deck, ridged insulation and standing seam "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"metal roof system. The exterior
facades are clad in pre-finished horizontal metal wall panels and burnished CMU
to match the administrative building. The interior walls of the bays are lined
in metal wall panels so that the insulation is protected from wear and tear and
the bottom portion of the walls consist of durable CMU. Each bay has two
motorized sectional doors for ease of access. Natural light is able to enter
the work bays through windows in each sectional door and a translucent wall
system located high on the north elevation. "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[0],1,"Project
Challenges:"]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"The
project is sited on 7 acres of land just outside of the city. The biggest
challenge in designing the project was working with the over 10’ of fall across
the site. The design team worked through several site layouts with the Civil
Engineers and Contractor before settling on the final plan. The entire site
plan was flipped, and Building B was rotated slightly to work with the existing
contours. This allowed the Civil Engineers to balance the cut and fill and
eliminated any need for retaining walls on the project, in turn saved the Owner
a substantial amount of money. "]]]]}
