The goals of the programs that take place in the Vision Center are to expand the thinking of students in the community to develop new ideas and discover paths of interest that were previously unknown. Bearing the name of the Vision Center\u2019s longtime leader, the late Clarence Jordan, the program is designed to create a force of servant leaders who impact their community and enact positive progressive change. The adaptive reuse of an industrial building into a learning and innovation center is a literal reimagining of the structure and its role in the community. The new design creates a center for community discussion and a place for new ideas to take root. Exterior banner and awnings provide an added pedestrian scale to the street-level fa\u00e7ade. The open courtyard and location of the coffee shop and community space reinforce the open invitation to members of the surrounding community. The Clarence Jordan Vision Center is for them. "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[0],1,"Complexity"]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Two challenges evident in the existing structure are a lack of connection to the outside and the surrounding community and a lack of natural light penetrating into the lower level of the space. Connectivity with the community was achieved by utilizing the exterior entrance courtyard as a transition space allowing people to engage with the building on their own terms. It is not necessary to enter the building to see the video displays on the media mesh screens over the second-floor windows or hear the ideas pouring out from the presentation space above. "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"To provide more natural light to the lower level, a large oval opening is cut into the second-floor slab creating the core of vertical circulation and anchoring the community center of the building. All programs and activities are connected to and flow through the grand core opening as it provides the perfect location for a large art display suspended between levels. The next course or the next idea are within reach and within their vision. As the students\u0027 progress through the program, they also progress through the building, constantly expanding their vision for what is possible.
