His work ethic,\ncuriosity, and willingness to learn have afforded him the opportunity to be\nthoroughly involved in all stages of the design and construction process.\nHaving such exposure has allowed him to become a resource for the emerging\nprofessionals in the office while also providing the ability to work\nindependently early on in his career, including taking on small projects of his\nown to develop experience in project management. He was born in Jamestown, ND and lived in Syracuse, NY., but\nprimarily grew up in Racine, WI. "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"He made the decision to move away from\nhome, without knowing anyone, to pursue his childhood dream of becoming an\nArchitect at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Unfortunately, Matthew\nwas not accepted following his first attempt. This hurdle did not stop him from\npursuing his dream. He smiled, focused on his goal, and tapped into his\nperseverance. He reapplied and was accepted. "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Following graduation, he lived and\nworked in Minneapolis for a little while to gain professional experience, as\nwell as to prepare and save money for graduate school. He applied to the\nCollege of Architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and was denied\nonce again, but once again, he did not give up on his dream. He smiled, focused\non his goal, and decided to move to Nebraska, again without knowing anyone.\nMatthew\u2019s first year was spent working at a local architecture firm while\nsimultaneously pursuing a Master of Engineering degree. He reapplied to the\nCollege of Architecture the following year and was accepted. Matthew graduated\nwith a dual Master\u2019s Degree in Architecture and Engineering."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Currently, he enjoys his role as a\nPrincipal at DLR Group. Ankerson is an agile leader and innovative\nproblem solver, award-winning author, and a strong proponent of\ninterdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary engagement. Prior to her current\nappointment at the University, she was Professor and Dean of the College of\nArchitecture at the UNL. As Dean, she led an ecosystem of inclusive innovation,\nrespecting and celebrating the differences and excellence in each discipline. Her\nleadership demonstrates a long-ranging breadth of commitment and impact across\nmultiple universities and organizations. \n"]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"She began\nher journey as a first-generation student with limited resources throughout\ncollege. Katherine has a BS Architectural Studies and MS both from Washington\nState University. Kathy is the\nfirst architecture\/design member to serve as the EVC at UNL. In this role,\nKatherine can continue to advocate for the design disciplines and the impact\nthat spatial- and design-thinking have on teaching, research, and engagement\nacross the state and beyond. The Gold Medal is the\nhighest honor the Nebraska Chapter of the American Institute of Architects\n(AIA) can bestow and is awarded in recognition of the most distinguished\nachievement in architecture or service to the profession of architecture in the\nState of Nebraska."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"\u201cPat is\none of the first few women of her generation to blaze a trail for women in\narchitectural leadership positions. She has been devoted to mentoring and\nencouraging young women in their early years to take on leadership roles. From a focus on families, as seen in\nher design of various multi-family projects, to larger public commissions such\nas the Gere Public Library Expansion and her AIA Award winning Gerald R. Ford\nConservation Center. In Lincoln, the Hewit Place building creates a cultural\ndestination within the city and helps to redefine the edge between UNL\u2019s campus\nand the city of Lincoln. And on a much larger scale, Patricia, as the design\narchitect, redefined the west side of UNL\u2019s Memorial Stadium."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Her approach\nto architecture was through the thoughtful use of materials, integration of\nstructure, and a sensitivity to place and context. It was Goodhue\u0027s revolutionary building design which\nwon the nationwide competition in 1920 for the creation of the state house in\nLincoln.
