Health and\ncounseling services were housed in a small two-story building that did not meet\ntheir space needs and were not accessible for the physically disabled.\nCounseling was located on the second floor and only accessible by a narrow\nflight of stairs. Health services\u2019 exam rooms were accessed by narrow and\ncircuitous corridors and did not provide sufficient staff or patient support\nfacilities. The charge was to design a new home for health and counseling,\neither by renovating an existing building or assisting in selecting a site and\ncreating a new building."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"The primary goal was to provide a Health and Counseling Center that\nintegrates health services for the body and the mind, physical and mental\nhealth, in a professional, accessible, and welcoming environment. Mental health\nservices wanted to encourage users to \u201chang out\u201d in the center, regardless of\nwhether they had a reason to be there\u2013\u2013the spaces needed to create a level of\ncomfort and support for all current and potential patients\/clients. Other\ncritical design goals were to have the building\u2019s exterior reflect the campus\u2019s\narchitectural look and feel and to create connections with the natural\nlandscape."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"By the nature of its function as a health and wellness center for the campus\ncommunity, the building encourages physical and mental resilience, promotes\nwell-being, and is positioned to address local, regional, national, and\ninternational health-related emergencies, such as the current worldwide\npandemic.
