Although I have faced\nmany challenges during college such as beating epilepsy and stage 4 cancer, my\ngoal is to use my experiences to help others succeed. She is pursuing a major in Architecture with a minor in\nEnvironmental Studies and Sustainability and a certificate in Historic\nPreservation at the University of Kentucky. Megan has excelled academically,\nearning a spot on the Dean\u0027s List and receiving several prestigious awards,\nincluding the UK College of Design Honors - Student Excellence in Service Award\nand the UK Libraries Dean\u0027s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Scholarship."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Megan\u0027s research project, "],[0,[1],1,"A House for Aging and Home\nfor Community"],[0,[],0,", earned her the UK Libraries Dean\u0027s Award. This project\nhighlights the conditions that support healthy aging, emphasizing secure\nhousing, meeting basic needs, and incorporating older individuals into\nintergenerational settings. The study, drawing on disciplines such as\narchitecture, urban planning, sociology, and gerontology. It explores the\nchallenges faced by seniors, including economic insecurity, lack of affordable\nhealthcare and housing, and issues like isolation and ageism. The research\ndraws inspiration from the communal qualities of the historical neighborhoods\nof Lexington, Kentucky."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Megan has been involved in university life through\nUK Undergraduate Research, Student Council, AIAS (American Institute of\nArchitecture Students), NOMAS (National Organization of Minority Architecture\nStudents), and UK Greenthumb. She also volunteers with the Lexington Parks\nDepartment and FoodChain, driven by her passion for community access to food\nand creating safe outdoor spaces. As a research assistant under School of\nArchitecture faculty she has helped construct architectural drawings for\nhistoric buildings and researched flood remediation to develop educational\nresources for homeowners. Hailey is\nfrom Apex, North Carolina and she hopes to someday become an architect focusing\non residential design in her home state. She aspires to study abroad and gain\nexperience through internships in the near future. She also wants to pursue her\neducation even farther and gain a master\u2019s degree in architecture after her\ntime at the University of Kentucky. Outside of school she enjoys trips to the\nbeach, hiking, and swimming in her free time."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0," "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[0],1,"AIA East Kentucky Scholarship ($3,400) - Lydia Schneider"]]],[10,3],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"Lydia Schneider is currently a second-year architecture\nstudent in the College of Design at the University of Kentucky. She currently\nholds the officer position of secretary for the American Institute for\nArchitecture Students. As a future designer Lydia wants to focus on the\ndevelopment of more equitable spaces. She wants people to be able to have a\nbeautiful, yet accessible space to interact with. Having a parent with mobility\nissues, I have witnessed how most spaces\/buildings are handicap accessible, but\nnot necessarily handicap friendly. Through my studies in this program, I want\nto learn better ways for us to create a more favorable environment for\neveryone.
