There is a great\nslate of members volunteering their time on the board this year to help create\ncontent, bring information, and be a resource for you."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"One\nof my goals as president this year is to explore opportunities to introduce\narchitecture and design to young people around the state. I have heard a common\nrefrain from many individuals at various firms that the available pool of young\ntalent is limited. We have a great design community within this State, and we\ncan continue to foster the development of talent locally by engaging with our\nyouth. We already have a couple of great opportunities that are covered in this\nnewsletter- so keep on reading!"]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"There\nwill be some challenging topics that need thoughtful input from all the members\nthis year. The board strongly requests that all members take time to educate themselves\non the topics of interior design licensure and a newly introduced topic to AELS\nto add architectural engineering. I want to stress that the board is volunteer\nmembers who are stepping up to not only maintain our accreditation as a\nchapter, but to take a lead on gathering, distilling, and disseminating\ninformation about these regulation actions which have an impact on our\nprofession. However, we as the board need to understand and be able to react to\nthese types of topics in a thoughtful way that mirrors what the membership at\nlarge expresses as their position, and through the requirements of AIA\nNational\u2019s position. To that end, please be on the lookout for a survey or two\nin the near future on these topics. The members who have volunteered their time\nso far could use your input to help understand how best to approach discussions\nwith our professional colleagues in the AE industry."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"AIA Alaska serves a broad group of members throughout the state. As an accredited chapter of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Alaska is committed to supporting AIA\u2019s goals outlined in their "],[0,[0],1,"statement on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"AIA Alaska\u2019s members are involved in the diverse communities throughout Alaska, regularly interacting with and designing for the First People\u2019s of Alaska. AIA Alaska members have engaged in bringing architecture education to communities throughout Alaska to foster interest in our profession. By doing so, we hope this encourages youth from all backgrounds and heritages to seek out a career which will add their voice and experience into shaping the unique built environment which we create throughout this state."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"AIA Alaska is led by volunteers from our membership, one which AIA Alaska\u2019s goal is to ensure is balanced by a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Of the 10 recognized board positions, we frequently have half or more represented by women. "]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"All members are encouraged to step in and step up to enhance the voices within our local component so that the work we do will create meaningful spaces in and for all the communities we have."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"At\nthe conference in Girdwood last year, I was encouraged to see firms that\nbrought a slate of Associate members and young architects. AIA Alaska continues\nto offer great learning opportunities, volunteer opportunities with great\nnational networking opportunities, and a chance to connect with the local\narchitect community. I encourage firms and mentors to continue supporting young\narchitects\u2019 involvement in our local chapter. My goal is to provide some new\nevents this year that engage and encourage our involvement in the local\ncommunity."]]]]}
