With over 1,460 individual\nmembers, we are back to pre-Great Recession membership numbers. While the\nnumber of AIA members is growing, our ongoing campaign to recruit and retain\nAssociate AIA members remains critical for the future."]],[[0,[],0,"\nThe focus of this\nsummer\u2019s planning retreat was on \u201cThe Next Generation of Leaders.\u201d Local, state\nand regional AIA leaders gathered to develop initiatives for encouraging\nmembers to participate in programs and step up to accept leadership\nopportunities. "]],[[0,[],0,"We remain in\nsolid financial shape. AIA Wisconsin has\nan operating budget for 2019 of $782,000. \nMember dues support roughly a third of the budget, with income from the\nstate conference and expo contributing another third. We have over $1 million in reserves."]],[[0,[],0,"We effectively\nadvocate for the profession. A major\nlegislative victory this year was the approval of a significant increase in the\nstate capital budget to address the backlog of critical repair, maintenance and\nremodeling projects for state agency and university facilities. In addition,\nthe so-called \u201cretired\u201d architect bill has passed the Wisconsin Senate and\nawaits action in the Assembly. So far, we also have been successful in slowing\ndown proposed legislation to expand the scope and regulate the practice of\ninterior design. This will remain an important legislative issue for\narchitects. "]],[[0,[],0,"\nThis spring\u2019s\nstate conference on architecture offered an exceptional program of speakers and\nspecial events. The successful design\nawards program enhanced public awareness of the value of architectural design\nby recognizing eight award-winning projects. The birdhouse design competition\nadded some fun to the Expo. The fall workshop focused on practice innovation to\nhelp the profession prepare for whatever the future may bring. "]],[[0,[],0,"\nWe celebrated the\ninaugural graduating class of our new leadership initiative \u2013 the Architect\nMentor Program (AMP) \u2013 and kicked off the second round of AMP sessions this\nfall with a new group of young architects. AIA Wisconsin also hosted the\nemerging professionals summit for members in the North Central States region."]],[[0,[],0,"Volunteer leaders\nof local sections offered a remarkably diverse menu of informative educational\nprograms, building tours and networking events. \nThese local programs are a great value and convenient for members.
